“Exemplify great use of space in urban living environments”
1804 B West 6th Street, Austin, Texas 78703

The property at 1804 West 6th Street is a contributing historical structure to the Old West Austin neighborhood planning area.  The challenge was to maintain this contributing status while meeting the needs to update and restore the duplex into homes that would be comfortable and energy efficient to live in.  This was accomplished by the continued use of much of the existing exterior siding while providing a well-insulated and sealed thermal envelope to allow for efficient heating and cooling.  Existing window sizes and placements were maintained in the new interior floor plan arrangement and allows for generous cross ventilation that captures prevailing breezes.  Reorientation of the entrances from the 6th Street/ MOPAC access road to the rear of the structure created a safer, more convenient entrance and access to outdoor living spaces.
